The Anacostia neighborhood is named after the Anacostia River, as it is located just east of the river. Anacostia is the most well known area in DC’s southwest quadrant. Downtown Anacostia is found at Good Hope Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
Anacostia DC has a great historic district maintaining the feeling of a 19th century working class area. Recreation in Anacostia Washington DC include the Fort Dupont Park ice skating rink which is open all year. Fort Dupont Park also has jazz concerts weekly in summer nights that is free to the public. The Washington Nationals baseball stadium is just across the Anacostia River from Anacostia.
An MLK parade is held every April celebration the notable leader’s birthday. There is also a sports and school tutoring tennis and learning center for kids to participate in. Because of the location of Anacostia in relation to the Anacostia River, many activities such as canoes, trails and education about the river are available to the public.
Anacostia has an abundance of high quality public and private schools. Anacostia is served by the District of Columbia Public Schools.
