Fairlawn has the longest history in Washington DC, that dates all the way back to the early 1600′s. Regardless, this area has been one of the most recently developed areas, where most of it remained farms and woodlands until the 1940′s. When a sharp need for housing occured at that time, neighborhoods were quickly erected, and most of those homes still stand today.
