Benning Ridge is a unique neighborhood for its location east of the Anacostia River, this area is a working-class and low-income area neighborhoods, but Benning Ridge is very affluent, this area has a very diverse population of middle- and upper-middle-class white and black residents.
Benning Ridge is a residential neighborhood located in Southeast Washington, D.C. The borders of Benning Ridge are as follows: Chaplin Park to the northwest, Southern Avenue to the south, Benning Road to the east, and Ridge Road SE to the west. Benning Ridge is also home to some of the city’s most notorious housing projects. Eastgate Gardens, which was demolished in 2000, and Benning Terrace to the east, also referred to by many long time residents as “Simple City”, for its long standing history of violent crime.
